<16> A major output of the JISC funded PERTAINS project, with MIMAS Digital Library Centre at University of Manchester. An earlier version was presented at the 2009 Universal Decimal Classification Seminar in The Hague. This paper reflects on implementations of terminology web services from a series of projects by the authors and makes a case for specialised terminology services for particular vocabulary types from experience with PERTAINS . That Dewey Decimal Classification suggestion service formed a significant part of the successful proposal (Digging into Metadata ongoing), with MIMAS and Drexel University, for the transatlantic 2011 Digging into Data Challenge (IMSL/JISC/AHRC/ESRC).
