Additional information

This complex and highly multidisciplinary work compiled in great detail different experimental approaches to provide information on cellular adhesion in a more controlled manner than individual research groups working in isolation. The interaction of cells with surfaces is an incredibly complex phenomenon and far from being understood, despite its importance in many aspects of biomolecular and medicinal science. An improved understanding requires a truly interdisciplinary approach with a wide range of measurement techniques that spanned the length scale from molecules to entire biofilm communities. This research addressed a wide range of biotechnology areas including biodegradation, pathogen survival and biofilm technologies.
