Additional information

Prior to this research there was limited research in the recovery of marks from fabric. No research had attempted a systematic study for the recovery of impressions in blood on fabric – results from this work demonstrated that the recovery of fine detail is possible on natural and synthetic fabrics. This publication has been supported by the Home Office Centre for Applied Science and Technology (CAST, previously known as the Home Office Scientific Development Branch). The results from this research will be used by the Home Office to advice police forces in the UK on how to treat marks on fabric.
