A new methodology for modelling erosion–corrosion regimes on real surfaces : Gliding down the galvanic series for a range of metal-corrosion systems
This paper presents for the first time a 3D erosion-corrosion model and map predicting the transition between erosion-corrosion regimes, and reflects real geometry rather than the accepted practice of tailoring of 2D models to a 3D space. The model considers material properties; the effects of electrochemical potential and pH. The research has resulted in a collaboration request from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in the application of the erosion-corrosion model to the Chilean copper-mining industry (mwalczak@ing.puc.cl). Regarded as a paradigm-shift by the community, it has led to an invited plenary address at the 3rd International Conference on Tribo-Corrosion (blaupj@ornl.gov).
