Restoration Trio Sonatas: Purcell Society Edition Companion Series, Vol. 4

The edition comprises nine complete works, and an appendix of three incomplete works. The music was newly edited using original manuscript sources; all except those in Japan and the USA were consulted in person. Cunningham was responsible for preparing the musical text and the Textual Commentary (which records the variants between sources). The edition is substantial enough, and sufficiently complex, for two editors, bringing their respective areas of expertise. It is the first time that any of this music has been edited and critically assessed, and sheds new light on Henry Purcell’s collections of trio sonatas and their context.
