Additional information

This is the third of three volumes that Fowler edited arising from the AHRC-funded research project “The Pronunciamiento in Independent Mexico, 1821-1876” (http://arts.st-andrews.ac.uk/pronunciamientos/). It concentrates on contemporary celebrations and representations of the pronunciamiento. Fowler brought together world-renowned scholars and early career researchers, edited their essays, assisted with the translation of some of the Spanish contributions and provided a “Chronology of Main Events” that refers the reader to the relevant chapters. The book includes two chapters by Fowler: his introductory essay on the ambivalence with which pronunciados were celebrated, and a study of foreign travellers’ representation of the pronunciamiento.
