Additional information

<01> This paper underpins the author's recently awarded EC FP7 grant “Re-discover a periodic table of elementary circuit elements” (PIIF-GA-2012-332059). Since 1971 when Leon Chua (Berkeley/Kent; the inventor of the memristor) identified the memristor in the same journal, Chua's quadrangle has been used to describe the relationship between elementary circuit elements. This paper overturns that, replacing it with a Circuit Element Triangle. The importance of such a table is similar to that of Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Chemical Elements in terms of re-categorizing existing elements and predicting new ones, and is expected to lead to fundamental innovations in hardware technology.
