Preparation of controlled porosity carbon aerogels for energy storage in rechargeable lithium oxygen batteries
This work funded by EPSRC (EP/D031672/1) is a fundamental research on the effect of cathode’s porosity on the performance of Li/O2 batteries. Carbons with different porosity controlled at nano-scale were prepared to design porous catalyzed electrodes with improved kinetics and energy efficiency for energy storage in Li/O2 batteries. It led to two further studies, first the study of the interfacial changes at the cathode electrode (EPSRC: EP/D031672/1 - Journal of Power Sources 195 (2010) 6817–6824) and also the study of new polymeric based carbons as potential electrode materials for Li/O2 batteries (EPSRC: EP/H019596/1 - Journal of ECS, 159 (2012) A315-A320). Author’s role: Main investigator, lead and corresponding author.
