Low-voltage coded excitation utilizing a miniaturized integrated ultrasound system employing piezoelectric 2-D arrays
This paper covers the development of very compact ultrasound instrumentation, to fit within the footprint of a section of an ultrasound array, to allow modular assembly. Supported by EPSRC grant GR/T19803 on scalable mosaic ultrasound arrays, it demonstrated the ability to develop a complete ultrasound system, from 2D array devices through to industry standard data presentation. This work has been influential in the development of Cochran’s strategic research direction, underpinning several ultrasound array PhD studentships and several EPSRC grants. The work has led to several invited talks by Prof. Cochran, including one at the 2010 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium.
