This is work that demonstrates how novel microfluidic structures can be integrated with holographic beam shaping to allow powerful control over droplet microfluidics. The paper was one in a suite that led to the award of an ERC starting Grant to Charles Baroud in this novel microfluidic area, and played a significant role in the award of two EPSRC studentships to McGloin working on applications of microfluidics for life science applications (students Craig McDonald and Yuri Belotti) by demonstrating the microfluidic capabilities to make the projects successful.
