Additional information

This paper covers processing (blackening by structuring) of copper using an industrially friendly and adaptable laser source. The presented technique will find applications in broadband thermal radiation sources, solar energy absorbers, irradiative heat transfer devices and thermophotovoltaics. We fully developed the technique in-house. This work featured in BBC Scotland News and was also highlighted by Physics Today (Taking the shine off copper). Professor Abdolvand fully supervised the work and is the corresponding author of the paper. This research was funded by Professor Abdolvand’s EPSRC New Directions for Developing Research Leaders Award [£280k - April 2012/April 2014 - EP/I004173/1].
