This paper demonstrates that the toughness of ceramics can be greatly enhanced through the addition of carbon nanotubes, principally as a result of achieving a uniform dispersion of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) within the matrix, through dispersion methods developed in the study. The increased toughness will enable engineering ceramics to be used in wider and more demanding application.
